Proposed Message Signs .... You Decide

 
Just so you know!

The message signs proposed by FDOT are to be installed on County Roads.  Yes, folks, on a streetside near you.

The sign posts are a minimum of 26.5' tall,
22.7 to 26.1' long and cost a minimum of $50,000.  They are not insureable and will have a lifespan of about 10-15 years. 

The sign itself is 5.5' tall and 12.5' wide at a current minimum cost of $25,000. Also not insureable and with a lifespan of about 10 yrs.

The installation cost for each sign is estimated at $40,000.

The proposed signs will look something like this:
(Let's hope the mast arm is NOT painted with green peeling paint for endless maintenance!) 

They are installed where fiber optic lines currently run.  The light itself is LED.
Operation and maintenance is estimated at about $2,000 per sign per year. (CTC suspects this is a very low estimate)

As you can see, these are not posted at entrance ramps to I-75.  They are to be posted on county roads.

 

 
Cost per sign w/trailer:
$14,000

Portable, Economical, Use Where & As Needed

Collier County already has a stock of 11 of these portable message signs.
Size of sign: 8 to 11' wide, 5 to 7' tall.  Mounted on a hydraulic lift which raises them eight feet from the ground.
Lifespan: 10 to 15 years.
